The small town of Brookline is home to about 4,950 residents and is a quintessential New England town in Hillsborough County. Brookline is home to the Talbot-Taylor Wildlife Sanctuary. A 20 minute drive to the city of Manchester, Brookline is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Rich in history, it was incorporated 1769. The first industry was grain mills, saw mills, lumber and charcoal.
Brookline consists of 20.1 square miles and is a bedroom community to nearby cities of Nashua, which is 12 miles away, Manchester as well as Massachusettes.

Governance for the schools in both Hollis and Brookline is provided by three school boards: The Hollis School Board, grades K-6 (5 members); the Brookline School Board, grades K-6 (5 members) and the Hollis Brookline Cooperative School Board, grades 7-12 (7 members). The SAU Board, composed of all 17 board members, helps to coordinate K-12 ongoing programs through discussions with SAU staff.
